PTFE Coating Systems Withstand Exceptionally High Temperatures and Harsh Chemicals

Teflon™ PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) industrial coatings have:

  • The highest operating temperature of any fluoropolymer (260 °C [500 °F])
  • The lowest coefficient of friction
  • Good abrasion and chemical resistance

PTFE industrial coatings are commonly used in mold release applications for products such as golf balls and rubber mats, but can be utilized in multiple applications and uses. These PTFE coatings for multi-coat systems are only available as a water-based liquid. 

Teflon™ FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene)

Diverse Uses for Teflon™ FEP Industrial Coating Systems

Teflon™ fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) industrial coatings melt and flow during baking to provide nonporous films. With a maximum operating temperature of 200 °C (400 °F), these industrial coatings have excellent nonstick properties and a low coefficient of friction. In addition to providing excellent chemical resistance, they also have high dielectric strength.

These multi-coat systems—commonly used in applications such as mold release that require nonstick properties—are available in water-based liquid and powder form. For some surfaces, it's recommended to use a primer before applying Teflon™ FEP coatings.

Teflon™ PFA (perfluoroalkoxy)

PFA Coating Systems Withstand Harsh Demands

Teflon™ perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) industrial coatings melt and flow during baking to provide nonporous films. These multi-coat systems provide higher continuous use temperatures (260 °C [500 °F]), have a high dielectric strength, and are considered tougher than PTFE or FEP.

Because of their chemical resistance properties, Teflon™ PFA industrial coatings can be used on pumps, tanks, valves, and vessels used in the chemical processing industry. These coatings also provide nonstick properties suitable for industrial bakeware applications.

Teflon™ ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene)

Considered one of the most durable fluoropolymer coatings, Teflon™ ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) industrial coatings are used widely across the chemical, power, energy production, and semiconductor industries.

These coatings have excellent chemical resistance because they are a nonporous film capable of operating continuously at 149 °C (300 °F). These multi-coat systems come in water-based liquid and powder form.
